Additional Insured COI Checker
Do not confuse Certificate Holder with Additional Insured.
Upload a COI and check whether the document includes the Additional Insured, Waiver of Subrogation, and endorsement language your contract requires.
What this checker looks for
The checker reviews the certificate for:
- Additional Insured indicators
- Waiver of Subrogation indicators
- Primary and Non-Contributory wording
- Certificate Holder name
- Description of Operations language
- Project-specific wording
- Endorsement references
- Missing or unclear endorsement attachments
Certificate Holder is not enough
Being listed as Certificate Holder means the certificate was issued to you.
It does not automatically mean your company is Additional Insured under the policy. The checker flags this distinction so your team can request the right wording or endorsement.
Request missing endorsements
When the checker finds unclear or missing Additional Insured language, it generates a correction request.
Example:
Please provide an updated COI and the applicable Additional Insured endorsement naming [Company Name] as required by contract.
FAQ
Can a COI prove Additional Insured status?
A COI may indicate Additional Insured status, but the actual endorsement may need to be reviewed to confirm policy language.
What is Waiver of Subrogation?
Waiver of Subrogation is a policy term that may prevent the insurer from seeking recovery from another party after paying a claim. Whether it applies depends on the policy and endorsement language.
Can the checker review CG 20 10 or CG 20 37 endorsements?
The checker can flag endorsement references and missing attachments. Full endorsement review may require a separate policy-document review.
